Australian businesses have been put on notice by The National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting Act 2007 (NGER).

What is NGER? This is a national framework for corporations to report greenhouse gas emissions and energy consumption from 1 July 2008. NGER is administered by the Dept of Climate Change - Greenhouse & Energy Data Office - to find out more Click here.
The act makes registration mandatory for corporations whose energy production, energy use or greenhouse gas emissions meet specified thresholds as follows:

• 1st year - to June 2009 = 125kt or 500TJ
• 2nd year - to June 2010 = 87.5kt or 350TJ
• 3rd year - to June 2011 = 50kt or 200TJ
